Copilot CLI: hooks that don’t hang the babysitter
Autopilot stops freezing on questions nobody is there to answer.
- One more folder:
/add-dirgrants sandbox access for the session; interactive settings nudge you to mask likely secrets. - No more frozen Autopilot: agent-scoped declarative hooks; Autopilot now denies a preToolUse “ask” instead of freezing on a dialog nobody is watching.
- New model, easier answers: Gemini 4 Argon support;
/askexpands with Ctrl+E, copies with Ctrl+Y.
In plain English
Leave Copilot CLI’s Autopilot running on its own, and it no longer freezes on a question nobody is there to answer.
Autopilot lets Copilot CLI work through a task without you. Hooks are small rules that run at set moments, for example right before a tool runs (a preToolUse hook). When such a hook answered "ask", Autopilot used to stop on a permission dialog that nobody was watching.
Now it treats that "ask" as a no and keeps going.
What else changed across three releases
- Custom agents can carry their own hooks (agent-scoped declarative hooks), and command hooks now complete reliably.
/add-dirgives the sandbox access to another folder for the current session.- Interactive sandbox settings suggest likely secrets in your environment and let you add masking before you save.
- The timeline shows who made each permission decision: you, Assisted Permissions, policy, or the unattended fallback.
- Gemini 4 Argon is supported. In
/ask, Ctrl+E expands an answer and Ctrl+Y copies all of it.
What to do
If you run Autopilot with a preToolUse hook that can answer "ask", expect those tool calls to be denied instead of paused. The timeline tells you which decisions came from the unattended fallback.
