OpenCode 1.19: the on-ramp to OpenCode 2 (and auto-update is off)

Action needed: OpenCode 2 is here, and updates are no longer automatic. opencode upgrade --major (or /update in the TUI) walks you there, so upgrade on purpose. It also allows OpenAI’s ultrafast service tier.

In plain English

OpenCode won’t update itself anymore, so the jump to OpenCode 2 is your call.

Until now, OpenCode installed its own updates. From version 1.19, updates are no longer installed automatically: you decide when to update, including the move to OpenCode 2.

How to upgrade

  • In a terminal, run opencode upgrade --major to move to OpenCode 2.
  • Inside OpenCode’s terminal app (the TUI), type /update. It installs regular updates or upgrades you to OpenCode 2.

Also in this release

OpenCode now allows OpenAI’s ultrafast service tier. It also checks where terminal (PTY) connections come from, and their tickets, before it looks up a terminal session.
