Codex sets up side workspaces for you

Run side tasks without the Git gymnastics. The new Codex CLI release can create and list managed Git worktrees from trusted local projects once the worktrees feature is on. It also lets you pin tasks in the agent Command Center with p.

In plain English

Working on two things in one repository no longer means stashing and switching branches by hand.

A Git worktree is a second working folder for the same repository, so one task can run without touching the files of another. The new Codex CLI release adds tools that create and list managed worktrees from trusted local projects, when the worktrees feature is enabled.

Also in this release

  • Pin tasks in the agent Command Center with p to keep them in a shared Pinned group, when the server supports it.
  • Use /copy to move through and copy transcript blocks, and Ctrl+Insert to copy a selection.
  • Links are now clickable in approval headers, questions, MCP prompts, warnings and banners, even when they wrap across lines.
  • apply_patch keeps existing CRLF line endings.

What to do

Update Codex CLI and turn on the worktrees feature if you want Codex to manage worktrees for you.
