Daily ·  · Codex · BackfilledAdded after launch from the official source. · 🌶️🌶️Medium: worth a look this week Why: New default model

Codex quietly moved you to GPT-6.1 Sol

Check your model: Codex now defaults to GPT-6.1 Sol. The new Codex CLI release makes it the default in the bundled and Amazon Bedrock catalogs. You can also sign in to MCP servers from a session with /mcp login <name>.

In plain English

If you never picked a model in Codex, your next session runs on a different one.

The new Codex CLI release makes GPT-6.1 Sol the default model in the bundled and Amazon Bedrock catalogs. Setups that rely on the default now get GPT-6.1 Sol. If you set a model yourself, nothing changes for you.

Also in this release

  • Sign in to an MCP server from an active terminal session with /mcp login <name>.
  • Choose your microphone, speaker and microphone input channels for voice conversations. Your choices are saved locally.
  • Amazon Bedrock supports multi-agent V2 and Ultra reasoning on compatible models.
  • Retries now follow the server’s retry guidance, which means fewer early failures when the service is overloaded.

What to do

Run Codex and check which model it uses. If you want to stay on your old one, set it explicitly.
